HK Customs attends the first Regional Roundtable Conference on Optical Disc Piracy in Southeast Asia

Senior Superintendent Tam Yiu-keung and Senior Inspector Lee Hon-man of Intellectual Property Investigation Bureau attended the 1st Regional Roundtable Conference on Optical Disc Piracy in Southeast Asia sponsored by the Philippines Optical Media Board in Manila, the Philippines from 29 March to 2 April 2005.

The conference was attended by delegates of 7 regions. It aimed at establishing a network of communication within the region between agencies concerned with the enforcement of anti-piracy or similar laws. Various issues were discussed in the conference such as the regulation to implement the licensing system on optical disc production, the effective strategy to contain the piracy problem and the share of experience among the respective region in enforcing the copyright-related laws.

The conference provided an excellent opportunity for participants to exchange views and experiences on anti-piracy enforcement. It also offered valuable reference to other delegates on the formulation of effective strategies to fight against piracy.
