Background

Cooperation between the enforcement bodies and owners of intellectual property rights (IPR) is essential to the fight against IPR offences. Recognizing the mutual benefits of cooperation, the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department (C&ED) has maintained a close working relationship with the IPR industry, which has contributed to the effective enforcement against infringement of copyright and trademarks that attract criminal liability. In an effort to further promote this strategic partnership for better protection of IPR, the C&ED in collaboration with the IPR industry has initiated the establishment of the Intellectual Property Rights Protection Alliance (Alliance).

The Intellectual Property Rights Protection Alliance is aimed to establish a broad-based platform for fostering closer cooperation between the C&ED and the IPR industry. It is a symbol of the stronger commitment of the department and industry to work in collaboration to pursue the goal of removing piracy and counterfeiting. It also serves to provide support for the "No Fakes Pledge Scheme" operated by the Intellectual Property Department to promote the sale of genuine goods in Hong Kong.
